International shipping trading continues in line with expectations

4th January 2013

International integrated shipping services group Clarksons believes that despite the ongoing difficulties within the markets, trading has continued in line with expectations.

The message was announced in a pre-close statement ahead of the firm reporting full year 2012 results on March 7.

In a statement last November covering the period from July 1 to November 6, the shipping services firm said that the shipping markets continued to reflect global economic uncertainty, particularly through reduced freight rates and lower asset prices.

Additionally, Clarksons highlighted the imbalance between supply and demand and the lack of available debt amid general weakness in capital markets.

In its statement, Clarksons said that lower than expected activity in the second half, predominantly in broking and financial, led to a reduction in the boards expectations for the full year results.
